Download Instructions

These instructions are generalised and may need adjusting for your installation due to variations between Windows versions or the organisation of your computer(s). Nor is this the only way to perform a download and install. The first few paragraphs deal with downloading in general and installing the Aspect Property Manager demonstration system. Followed by instructions which relate to specifically to performing upgrades.

Alternatively view this video which shows the steps needed to download and install the demonstration version of the Aspect Property Manager.

    Introduction

To use the Aspect Property Manager it is necessary to first copy (download) a special install program from this web site to your computer, then run that install program on your computer. The download process itself does not install the property management software. It merely copies a "container" holding the actual program and files required. Once the download is complete you must initiate the install process to get a working Aspect Property Manager on your computer.

To initiate a download, locate and double click the item to be dowloaded on the Downloads page.

A "File Download" window will appear.

Select "Save it to disk" and click "OK".

A window entitled "Save As" will appear. This is asking you in which directory (folder) you want to save the file being downloaded. Do not change the filename. Various display methods are used to enable you to nominate the directory (folder) where the file is to be placed. Sometimes a tree structure similar to the classic Windows Explorer display and other times you use a series of windows making a selection in each window until your desired location is found. A "Browse" button is sometimes employed.

If you have a standard "download" directory select that as the "Save in" directory. Otherwise find a temporary directory, or create one named "Temp" directly under your "C" drive. Open the directory and click "Save" to commence downloading.

When the download is complete either click "Open" to start the installation immediately or use Windows Explorer to locate then double click the downloaded file.

The installation process will now take you through a series of screens. Unless you have disk space or other constraints and you know what you are doing we suggest you use the default names which are offered during the installation process.

Installing the Aspect Property Manager creates a special directory inside the   ...\PropMan   directory called   Zip Fixes   and this should be used as the target for all future Aspect Property Manager related downloads such as upgrades. This means you can keep all related items together as well as making disk housekeeping much easier.

Start the property management program from the desktop icon or the Start button > Programs > Aspect Property Manager menu.

Do not use Windows Explorer to move the Aspect Property Manager to a new location. See the Upgrade Instructions "Warning".

    Upgrade Instructions

Warning
When performing an upgrade, the install part of the process knows where the Aspect Property Manager was installed originally and will place new files based on that location. For this reason, among others, you must not use Windows Explorer to move the Aspect Property Manager to a new location - it must be un-installed and re-installed. This process is covered in the Aspect Property Manager Help. If you ignore this warning future upgrades will fail.

Whenever you are upgrading we strongly recommend that the Aspect Property Manager is backed up beforehand.

When performing any upgrade we recommend you download and save the upgrade install file to the    ...\PropMan\Zip Fixes   directory rather than perform the process over the Internet or saving the file elsewhere.

The download portion of any upgrade may be performed from the Help menu > Aspect Systems Web Site ... entry while the Aspect Property Manager is in use. But all users, including yourself, must be logged out before running the upgrade install itself.

The install may be initiated either via the download "Open" option or by using Windows Explorer to locate and double click the install file in the    ...\PropMan\Zip Fixes   directory.

* In multi-user environments the download and upgrade must always be performed on the computer where the Aspect Property Manager program was installed.

In Client/Server environments the same applies. In addition the server should be Exited, not just stopped. After the install is complete first start the Aspect Property Manager in peer-to-peer mode from the Start button > Programs > Aspect Property Manager menu before restarting the server.
